Tequila Ocho Widow Jane Barrel Select Anejo Tequila 750ml

Tequila Ocho Widow Jane Barrel Select Anejo is an Anejo Tequila from Tequilera Los Alambiques in Arandas, Jalisco Highlands, Mexico. This 2024 release rested twelve months in recently-emptied Widow Jane 10-year bourbon barrels, bottled at 96 proof, additive-free, with single-estate, single-field agave from rancho El Nacimiento distilled in 2022.

This was the second Tequila Ocho x Widow Jane collaboration, following the 2022 Reposado, and the first to step up to a full twelve-month Anejo timeline. The fresh-pull Widow Jane 10-year bourbon casks contributed more wood character than typical ex-bourbon barrels because of the shorter window between bourbon dump and tequila fill. Production follows Tequila Ocho's traditional methods at NOM 1474: 100 percent fully-mature (overripe, in this case) Blue Weber agave from rancho El Nacimiento, brick-oven slow cooking, roller mill extraction, open-air fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills. The release was capped at 1,300 cases for select US markets.

On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with vanilla, baking spice, and caramel from the fresh Widow Jane casks. The palate brings sweet agave, oak structure, caramel sweetness, and a fuller body from the higher 48 percent ABV bottling, and the finish carries a long, balanced close.

The fresh-pull Widow Jane 10-year casks plus the higher 96-proof bottling make this the boldest, most wood-forward Ocho Anejo released to date. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
