Tequila Ocho Transatlantic Barrel Select Anejo is an Anejo Tequila from Tequilera Los Alambiques in Arandas, Jalisco Highlands, Mexico. This 2020 release rested twelve months in a combination of rum casks from Fiji and Panama and Maison Ferrand Cognac casks, bottled at 88.4 proof, additive-free.

Transatlantic was one of three releases in Tequila Ocho's 2020 Barrel Select Collection - a collaboration between Carlos Camarena, Tomas Estes, and Maison Ferrand master blender Alexandre Gabriel that swapped the standard very-used ex-bourbon barrels Ocho normally fills for combinations of rum and Cognac casks. The Transatlantic build bridges hemispheres: South Pacific and Caribbean rum casks alongside French Cognac casks. Production follows Tequila Ocho's traditional methods at NOM 1474: 100 percent fully-mature Blue Weber agave from a single Los Altos field, brick-oven slow cooking, roller mill extraction, open-air fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills.

On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with dried tropical fruit, brandy-like richness, and gentle oak. The palate brings sweet agave, molasses-driven rum sweetness, dried apricot, baking spice, and integrated Cognac character, and the finish carries a long, layered close.

The rum-and-Cognac build gives Transatlantic a dried-fruit weight and brandy-like richness the standard Anejo doesn't carry. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
