Tapatio Excelencia Gran Reserva is an 80 Proof (40.0% ABV) legendary, ultra-aged extra añejo produced at the historic La Alteña distillery (NOM 1139). This masterpiece of preservation is distilled from 100% estate-grown highland agave, slow-cooked in stone ovens and crushed using a roller mill and traditional tahona hybrid. Maturation is distinct: the spirit ages for approximately 4–5 years in used American white oak, followed by a decade-long rest in 5-liter glass jugs to stabilize the flavor without further wood tannins.
This "glass-aged" technique prevents over-oaking, resulting in a dense, high-viscosity spirit that maintains vibrant agave character despite its extreme age. Technical specs highlight a sophisticated profile of sandalwood, baking spices, and caramelized pear, balanced by the earthy highland terroir and a lingering finish of dark chocolate and herbal mint. This release represents the pinnacle of Carlos Camarena’s commitment to "old-school" tequila craftsmanship.
