George T. Stagg 2017 is a barrel-strength powerhouse from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, distilled at DSP-KY-113 using the distillery's low-rye Mashbill #1. Distilled in the spring of 2002, this expression underwent 15 years and 3 months of maturation in new charred American white oak. This vintage is technically notable for its 129.2 proof, which represented a significant moderation in heat compared to the previous year’s high proof release.
Despite the lower proof, the barrels experienced a high evaporation loss, concentrating the spirit into a high-viscosity, oily structural framework. With an estimated37,997 bottles released, the technical profile is defined by a dense integration of dark chocolate, leather, and molasses, refined by over fifteen years of seasonal thermal cycles in the Kentucky climate.
