Fortaleza Anejo is an Anejo Tequila from Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. The core Anejo expression is aged around eighteen months per batch in American oak barrels and bottled at 80 proof, additive-free.
Fortaleza traces back to 1873 and the founder of the modern tequila industry, Don Cenobio Sauza. Today the distillery operates under his great-great-grandson Guillermo Erickson Sauza out of NOM 1493 in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, using the same traditional methods that defined tequila before industrialization: 100 percent estate Blue Weber agave grown on the family's hillside ranches, brick-oven slow cooking, tahona stone-wheel extraction, open-air wooden vat fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills. The bottles themselves are hand-blown in Mexico.
On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with vanilla, oak, dried fruit, and gentle spice. The palate brings caramel, baking spice, agave sweetness, and integrated oak from the eighteen-month rest, and the finish carries a balanced, lightly tannic close.
The Anejo's eighteen-month minimum timeline gives enough oak integration for complexity without burying Fortaleza's signature agave core. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
