Corazon de Agave Expresiones French Oak Anejo Tequila 750ml

Corazon Expresiones French Oak Anejo is part of the 2024 Buffalo Trace barrel-aged tequila collection from Corazon de Agave - and the first-ever French Oak finish in the Expresiones lineup. This release rests Casa San Matias' Highland anejo tequila for over 13 months in French Oak barrels that previously aged Old Charter Oak French Oak Kentucky Straight Bourbon, bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% Blue Weber agave mash.

Expresiones del Corazon is a collaboration between Corazon Tequila and Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Buffalo Trace empties barrels from its most allocated American whiskey programs - including the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection - and ships the freshly emptied casks to Casa San Matias in Acatic, Los Altos de Jalisco. Corazon fills each barrel with its Highland Jalisco anejo or reposado tequila and rests the spirit in the residual whiskey compounds that have soaked into the wood through years of prior maturation. The filled barrels are stored in the first row of the aging facility - the level with the most controlled airflow - and tasted every two months until the desired character is reached.

Corazon Tequila is distilled at Casa San Matias, Mexico's fourth-oldest tequila distillery (NOM 1103), with more than 130 years of continuous production. The base tequila is 100% Highland Blue Weber agave, slow-cooked in traditional stone ovens, then pressed, fermented, and copper-pot-still distilled.

French oak imparts a different character than American oak: tighter grain, higher tannin, and a softer vanilla-and-spice arc that leans toward dried fruit and a wine-like roundness rather than the caramel-and-popcorn sweetness of bourbon-barrel anejos. The Old Charter Oak French Oak Bourbon donor program - one of Buffalo Trace's experimental Old Charter Oak series - puts that French Oak character through a layer of Kentucky bourbon first, so the Corazon Expresiones French Oak Anejo carries both the bourbon's residual sweetness and the French Oak's lighter, more elegant tannin.

On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with dried fruit, soft vanilla, and French-oak spice. The palate brings rounded agave, dried apricot, baking spice, and a refined oak frame, and the finish carries a long, elegant close with lingering fruit and gentle tannin.
