2021 Clase Azul Puebla is the brand's limited-edition tribute to Puebla, Mexico - and to the cultural exchange between Mexico and France that grew out of the 1862 Battle of Puebla and the Cinco de Mayo tradition that followed. The 2021 Puebla Limited Edition is aged in antique French oak barrels, bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% organic Highland Blue Weber agave mash. Production is capped at just 300 hand-numbered ceramic decanters worldwide.
Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico.
The decanter is a hand-painted ceramic homage to the traditional Talavera pottery of Puebla - the centuries-old Mexican craft that blends indigenous techniques with Spanish-introduced tin-glazed earthenware. The Clase Azul Puebla decanter renders the Talavera palette - vibrant cobalt-and-yellow ceramic with floral patterns - and pairs the fleur de lis (the historic French luxury motif) with the Mexican agave plant (a long-standing indigenous symbol of health and fertility). The combination reads as a direct visual tribute to the Mexico-France exchange that anchored the Battle of Puebla story.
On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with caramel, vanilla, and bright citrus. The palate brings smooth agave, warm caramel, soft baking spice, and the tighter-grain oak character of the French barrel, and the finish carries a long, luxurious close.
