Clase Azul Jalisco 200 is the brand's limited Extra Anejo commemorating the 200th anniversary of the state of Jalisco - the Mexican state that is the legal birthplace of tequila and the home of Clase Azul Tequila itself. The Jalisco 200 release is a 5-year-aged Extra Anejo, bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% Highland Blue Weber agave mash, finished in a hand-crafted ceramic decanter inspired by Jalisco's cultural heritage.
Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico.
The 200-year milestone places the release in a specific lineage of Clase Azul tribute editions: where the Puebla edition honored the cultural exchange of one Mexican state, the Jalisco 200 edition turns the program inward to celebrate the brand's own home territory. The decanter is hand-shaped, hand-painted, and individually numbered as a collector's piece. Each decanter is unique - the details of the painting vary from bottle to bottle.
On the nose, it shows deeply cooked agave layered with caramel, dried fruit, and warm oak. The palate brings rich, mature agave wrapped in caramel, baking spice, and the 5-year oak depth, and the finish carries a long, luxurious close with lingering sweetness.
