Clase Azul Ultra Extra Anejo is the brand's flagship Extra Anejo expression - a 5-year-aged tequila that anchors the Clase Azul Ultra program and serves as the reference Extra Anejo against which the brand's limited-edition decanters (Master Artisans, Loft Brooklyn, MGM Resorts) are measured. The Ultra is matured for 5 years in a combination of American whiskey casks and Spanish sherry casks, bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% organic Highland Blue Weber agave mash.
Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico.
The Clase Azul Ultra ceramic decanter is one of the most ornate bottles in the core lineup: hand-painted ceramic with platinum, silver, and 24-karat gold detail. Production is released in individually numbered batches of just 100 bottles at a time, making the Ultra one of the most allocated regularly produced Extra Anejos in the additive-free Highland tequila category. Each decanter takes hours of hand-painting per piece in Santa Maria Canchesda.
On the nose, it shows deeply cooked agave layered with caramel, dried fruit, and warm oak. The palate brings rich, mature agave wrapped in dark caramel, chocolate, dried fig, and sherry-cask sweetness, and the finish carries a long, luxurious close with lingering oak spice and warmth.
