Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection Wheated Warehouse Floors Floor #1 is a Wheated Bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. This 2015 release was distilled from a wheated mash bill in 2002 and aged for 12 and a half years on the first floor (bottom) of Warehouse K, a nine-story brick warehouse chosen for the variety of aging conditions it provides.
The Experimental Collection is Buffalo Trace's long-running program of one-off whiskeys exploring unique mash bills, woods, barrel toasts, and aging conditions, with more than 2,000 experimental barrels aging in the distillery's warehouses. The Wheated Warehouse Floors Experiment repeated Buffalo Trace's earlier rye-recipe floor study, this time with a wheated bourbon mash bill split across floors one, five, and nine of Warehouse K to see whether wheated distillate responds differently to aging position than rye-recipe bourbon.
On the nose, it shows caramel, vanilla, marzipan, and creme brulee. The palate brings layered sweet notes with a creamy texture and soft background spice, and the finish carries a delicate, soothing close.
Floor #1 was the gentlest of the three wheated experiments, with the cooler bottom-floor conditions producing a soft, dessert-like profile. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
