Thomas H. Handy Sazerac 2006 132.7 Proof is the landmark inaugural release of the barrel-strength rye expression within the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. Distilled in the spring of 1998 at Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113), this spirit underwent a maturation period of 8 years and 5 months in new charred American white oak—the oldest age statement in the series' history. This debut is technically distinguished by its intense 132.7 proof, a result of maturation on the 8th floor of Warehouse K, where the elevated microclimate facilitated a significant 29.75% evaporation loss.
Unlike the senior Sazerac 18, this bottling was designed to showcase the raw, high-viscosity power of uncut rye. The structural framework is defined by a dense concentration of wood sugars and grain spice, delivering signature notes of allspice, orange peel, and dark chocolate, underscored by the persistent herbal rye pepper that established the Handy profile.
