Sazerac 18 Year Old 2020 90 Proof is a mature, technically precise release from the Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113). Distilled in the spring of 2002, this expression matured for 18 years and 4 months in new charred American white oak before its release in the 2020 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. This vintage is characterized by a significant 76.9% evaporation loss, which concentrated the liquid into a dense, high-viscosity structural framework while yielding an exceptionally limited outturn.
As is standard for the modern era of the brand, it is widely understood that the spirit is distilled in-house at Buffalo Trace and, unlike the 2000–2015 batches, this 2020 edition was pulled from an active barrel maturation cycle without the use of tanking. The technical profile is defined by a clean, 18-year maturation in the Kentucky climate, delivering a balanced profile of herbal mint, tannic oak, and dark berries.
