This spirit marks the conclusion of the second major "tanking" era, where the 18-year-old rye was batched into stainless steel vats to arrest wood maturation and maintain absolute consistency across the 2016, 2017, and 2018 releases.
Prior to tanking, the barrels underwent 18 years of primary maturation in new charred American white oak, with a significant evaporation loss that concentrated the liquid’s structural integrity. The technical profile is defined by a dense, silky viscosity and the "polished" character associated with modern Buffalo Trace distillate. Notes of dark chocolate, oak tannins, and a persistent herbal spice provide a clean technical window into the transition from heritage vatted stocks to contemporary distillery production.
