Sazerac 18 Year Old 2001 Release is the second entry in the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection rye lineage, distilled at either the Old Bernheim Distillery or George T. Stagg Distillery. This spirit was distilled in the spring of 1983 and underwent 18 years of primary maturation in new charred American white oak before its fall 2001 bottling. The technical profile is defined by a high-viscosity body and a "perfumed" aromatic complexity, a result of the early-80s Kentucky rye production methods.
Unlike the later tanked versions, this 2001 bottling captures a specific 1983 distillation lot that emphasizes a dense structural framework of stone fruits, floral esters, and rich leather. Bottled at a steady 90 proof, the liquid maintains a concentrated spice-forward character, offering a raw technical showcase of heritage rye stocks prior to the transition to Buffalo Trace’s in-house distillate.
