Sazerac 18 Year Old 2024 90 Proof is a prestigious, ultra-aged technical release distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113). Distilled in the spring of 2005 and 2006, this edition spent 18 years and 5 months maturing in new charred American white oak barrels (#4 char), primarily within the temperate microclimates of lower Warehouse floors.
Unlike the vatted era of the series, this release utilized an active maturation cycle to achieve a refined, high-viscosity structural framework. It is crafted from a low-rye mash bill of plump rye, Kentucky corn, and malted barley, although the exact percentages remain undisclosed by the distillery. The technical profile is defined by a slow, elegant oxidation that produces a dense mouthfeel with layers of dried orange, clove, and aniseed, supported by a lingering finish of floral honey and tobacco leaf.
