Clase Azul Anejo is the long-aged Anejo expression from Clase Azul Tequila - the Highland artisan tequila aged a minimum of 25 months in a blend of used American bourbon barrels and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, hand-bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% organic Highland Blue Weber agave mash. The Clase Azul Anejo decanter is hand-painted in detailed jewel-tone ceramic finish - the most ornate bottle in the brand's core lineup.
Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico, and finished with platinum, silver, and 24-karat gold detail on the higher-end expressions.
Production is 100% organic Blue Weber agave - typically 9 to 10 years old at harvest - slow-cooked roughly 72 hours in traditional masonry brick ovens, fermented with the house's proprietary yeast, then double-distilled in copper alembic stills.
Where Clase Azul Reposado leans bright and oak-vanilla forward, Clase Azul Anejo leans deep and sherry-cask warm. The 25-month resting window in the dual-cask blend draws out caramel, dark dried fruit, and a velvety mouthfeel that has made the Anejo one of the most collected artisan tequila releases in the additive-free Highland category.
On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with caramel, dried fruit, vanilla, and gentle sherry-cask sweetness. The palate brings rich agave, dark caramel, baking spice, dried fig, and a velvety texture from the Pedro Ximenez component, and the finish carries a long, warming close with lingering oak and dried fruit.
