Tequila Ocho Las Raices Reposado is a Reposado Tequila from Tequilera Los Alambiques in Arandas, Jalisco Highlands, Mexico. This 2024 single-field release was distilled from overripe agaves grown at Rancho Las Raices - eight kilometers from the distillery on a gentle hillside at roughly 7,145 feet elevation - rested four to six months in overused American whiskey barrels and bottled at barrel proof 101, additive-free.

Las Raices ("The Roots") sits east of Tequilera Los Alambiques in the heart of the Los Altos Highlands, divided into two parts by groves of ash, oak, and poplar. The red clay soil typical of the Los Altos region runs high in iron and potassium, giving the agave grown there a distinctive mineral signature. The 101-proof Barrel Proof bottling represents a new direction for Tequila Ocho - both stronger and longer-rested than the brand's standard Reposado, with the four-to-six month timeline running roughly three times longer than the signature eight-weeks-and-eight-days rest. Production follows Tequila Ocho's traditional methods at NOM 1474: brick-oven slow cooking, wild yeast fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills.

On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with caramel, baking spice, dried fruit, and oak. The palate brings rich agave, integrated oak, vanilla, dried fruit, and a fuller body from the 101-proof bottling, and the finish carries a long, oak-forward close.

The Las Raices Barrel Proof bottling is Tequila Ocho's most cask-forward Reposado to date, sitting closer to Anejo character than to the brand's signature short-rest Reposado. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
