Fortaleza Mission 1530 Single Barrel is a Reposado Tequila from Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. This single-barrel charitable release was aged eleven months in a fifty-year-old French oak Cognac cask provided by Master Cooper Yves Pelletant, bottled at 94 proof, additive-free.

The Mission 1530 program raises funds for the Tequila Interchange Project (TIP), the nonprofit working to protect traditional agave-spirit producers through legislation, education, and advocacy. The single-barrel format keeps every bottle drawn from one half-century-old French oak cognac cask, with proceeds directed to the cause. Production follows Fortaleza's traditional methods at NOM 1493: 100 percent estate Blue Weber agave, brick-oven slow cooking, tahona stone-wheel extraction, open-air wooden vat fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills.

On the nose, it shows dark caramelized agave layered with butterscotch and natural vanilla. The palate brings dense high-viscosity body, ripe stone fruit, dark caramel, and spicy nutmeg from the well-broken-in Cognac cask, and the finish carries a long, oily close with sustained dried-fruit richness.

The fifty-year-old French oak Cognac cask gives the release a depth and brandy-like character that contrasts with Fortaleza's American oak core Reposado. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
