Fortaleza Austin Shaker Single Barrel is a Reposado Tequila from Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. This single-barrel selection was hand-picked exclusively for The Austin Shaker, the Austin, Texas locally-owned spirits and bar-gear retailer, bottled at 93 proof, additive-free.
The Austin Shaker has built a strong reputation in the Austin bar and bartender community for curated single-barrel selections of small-production spirits, and the Fortaleza pick draws from one used American oak Reposado cask before Fortaleza's single-barrel program was discontinued. Production follows Fortaleza's traditional methods at NOM 1493: 100 percent estate Blue Weber agave, brick-oven slow cooking, tahona stone-wheel extraction, open-air wooden vat fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills.
On the nose, it shows cooked agave layered with caramel, vanilla, and a subtle smoke. The palate brings smooth, rich texture, sweet agave, caramel, vanilla, and gentle oak from the single barrel, and the finish carries a balanced close.
The single-barrel format keeps the character of one specific cask intact rather than blending it back into the standard Reposado run. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
