2016 Clase Azul Pink Edition is the inaugural Pink Bottle release in the Clase Azul Tequila lineup - the bottle that started the brand's annual breast cancer awareness tradition. Limited to 3,000 hand-numbered ceramic decanters worldwide, the 2016 Pink Edition is the brand's flagship Reposado expression - rested 8 months in used American oak whiskey casks at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% organic Highland Blue Weber agave mash - finished in a hand-painted pink ceramic Clase Azul Pink Bottle decanter.
Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico.
The Clase Azul Pink Edition is the brand's annual breast cancer awareness release - an artisan ceramic Clase Azul Pink Bottle produced each year to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. Starting with the 2018 edition, a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold has been donated to Grupo de Recuperacion Total Reto, a Mexican nonprofit supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer. The Pink Bottle decanter wears a hand-painted pink finish with a pink ribbon - the global symbol of breast cancer solidarity.
The 2016 release set the format that has carried through every Pink Edition since: the brand's core 8-month Reposado in a hand-painted pink ceramic decanter, tied to the global pink ribbon symbol of breast cancer awareness.
On the nose, it shows fragrant cooked agave layered with apple cider, warm cinnamon, honey, and soft florals. The palate brings smooth, creamy vanilla, caramelized agave, and subtle earthy tones, and the finish carries a long, velvety close with hints of tobacco, chamomile, anise, and clove.
