The 2014 Realm Cellars "The Absurd" Proprietary Red is widely considered a "perfect" Napa Valley wine, receiving a 100-point score from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. As the winery’s flagship "crème de la crème" selection, it is produced in extremely limited quantities—only 250 cases for this vintage—by winemaker Benoit Touquette.

Product Detail:

Unlike other Realm wines, "The Absurd" follows no set varietal rules, as the winery starts with a "blank canvas" each year to select the finest barrels in the cellar.

  • Composition: The 2014 vintage is a Bordeaux-style blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot.
  • Tasting Notes: According to Wine Advocate, it features an opaque purple color with an extraordinary nose of spring flowers, blueberry, blackberry, and toast. Jeb Dunnuck describes it as an "incredibly opulent, powerful wine" with silky tannins and notes of crème de cassis, tobacco, and chocolate.
  • Aging Potential: While drinking beautifully now, critics suggest it will continue to age well through 2035–2038.
  • Wine Advocate: 100 Points
  • Jeb Dunnuck: 100 Points
  • James Suckling: 97 Points
  • Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 95 Points
