William Larue Weller 2012 is a 123.4 Proof barrel-strength wheated bourbon distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113). Distilled in the spring of 2000, this expression matured for 12 years and 4 months in new charred American white oak barrels. This release is technically distinguished by its slightly lower proof than previous limited editions, a result of its maturation microclimate within the 2nd and 4th floors of Warehouses I and P. The barrels experienced a 56.6% evaporation loss, which concentrated the wood sugars into a dense, oily structural framework.
Bottled uncut and unfiltered, the technical profile is defined by a thick, buttery viscosity and a rich aromatic complexity. It delivers robust notes of butterscotch, black peppercorns, and vanilla, transitioning into jammy fruit flavors and sweet custard on the palate that persist through an intense, spicy finish.
