Eagle Rare 17 Year Old 2018 is a 101 Proof release from Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113), representing the first time since 1989 that the brand returned to its original hallmark strength. This 2018 edition was distilled in the spring of 2000 and matured for exactly 18 years and 4 months—significantly exceeding its stated age—in new charred American white oak barrels (#4 char). This vintage is technically distinguished by its primary maturation on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th floors of Warehouse C, where it experienced a massive 89.5% evaporation loss.
This extreme concentration of "angel’s share" concentrated the liquid into a dense, high-viscosity structural framework, yielding an exceptionally limited outturn of approximately 1,627 bottles. Bottled at 101 proof as a permanent tribute to the original 1974 release strength, the technical profile is characterized by a refined balance of toasted oak, coffee, spearmint, and butterscotch.
