Eagle Rare 17 Year Old 2020 is a 101 Proof technical allocation from the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, distilled in the spring of 2002 at the Buffalo Trace Distillery (DSP-KY-113). Although it carries a 17-year age statement, this specific vintage was matured for exactly 18 years and 3 months in new charred American white oak barrels (#4 char). This release is technically distinguished by its maturation on the 1st floor of Warehouse P, a cooler microclimate that moderated wood extraction and resulted in a 59% evaporation loss.
This concentration of the "angel's share" yielded a dense, high-viscosity structural framework. Bottled at 101 proof as a tribute to the original 1974 Eagle Rare strength, the technical profile is defined by a refined balance of dark cherry, vanilla bean, and spearmint, transitioning into a dry finish characterized by earthy oak, leather, and dark chocolate.
