William Larue Weller 19 Year Old 2000 First Release is the cornerstone wheated expression of the inaugural Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. This landmark spirit was distilled in the fall of 1980 and matured for 19 years in new charred American white oak. While the distillation date is a matter of record, the spirit is famously rumored to have been distilled at the historic Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Shively, KY, prior to its acquisition and transfer.
This vintage reached a refined 90 proof, marking a technical departure from the barrel-strength iterations that would define the modern series starting in 2005. The maturation process resulted in an exceptionally high evaporation loss, with technical data indicating that a large percentage of the original barrel volume was lost to the angels. The structural profile is defined by a dense, resinous concentration of wood sugars, delivering antique wheated notes of candied fruit, maple, and deep leather.
