Fortaleza Los Abuelos Amor y Perros is a Reposado Tequila from Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. This limited release is a blend of 25 percent Sherry-cask reposado and 75 percent ex-bourbon-cask reposado, bottled at 88 proof, additive-free.
The bottle was originally produced as a private cask for a wedding held at La Fortaleza, then released to the wider Mexican market under the family's Los Abuelos label, the brand name Fortaleza uses domestically. "Amor y Perros" translates to "Love and Dogs" - a tribute to the wedding's bride and groom and their dogs, with a portion of proceeds donated to dog-rescue organizations. The release has become one of the rarest editions out of the distillery, sought by collectors. Production follows Fortaleza's traditional methods at NOM 1493: 100 percent estate Blue Weber agave, brick-oven slow cooking, tahona stone-wheel extraction, open-air wooden vat fermentation, and double distillation in small copper pot stills.
On the nose, it shows buttery cooked agave layered with citrus zest, earth, and gentle oak. The palate brings rich oily texture, vanilla, toasted oak, cinnamon, oxidative Sherry character, mineral notes, and a whisper of honey, and the finish carries a long, clean close with black pepper.
The Sherry-cask portion gives the blend a noticeably more oxidative, fruit-driven profile than a straight American oak Reposado. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
