Fortaleza Blanco Lot 200-B is a Blanco Tequila from Destileria La Fortaleza in Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. This commemorative release marks the 200th bottling run of Fortaleza Blanco, bottled at 80 proof, additive-free.
Lot 200-B continues the fiber-on fermentation approach Fortaleza first used on Lot 150-B, this time fermenting the mosto with the bagazo - the cooked, crushed agave fiber - in large wooden pipones (oak vats) for additional fiber-driven texture and aromatic complexity. The spirit was also distilled directly to 40 percent ABV with no water cut, the same no-proof-down approach used on the milestone Lots 100-B and 150-B. Production otherwise follows Fortaleza's traditional methods at NOM 1493: 100 percent estate Blue Weber agave grown in the Tequila Valley Lowlands, brick-oven slow cooking, tahona stone-wheel extraction, double distillation in small copper pot stills, and a hand-blown bottle made in Mexico.
On the nose, it shows rich cooked agave layered with mineral depth and bright citrus. The palate brings concentrated agave sweetness, creamy mouthfeel from the bagazo, and signature Fortaleza viscosity reminiscent of the earliest single-digit lots, and the finish carries a long, mineral close.
The pipon fiber-on fermentation plus the no-water-cut distillation make Lot 200-B the third in Fortaleza's series of milestone Blancos pushing beyond the standard production playbook. It drinks well neat or over a single large cube.
