2020 Clase Azul Dia de los Muertos is the second annual Day of the Dead release from Clase Azul Tequila. Limited to 2,000 hand-numbered ceramic decanters worldwide, the 2020 release is a Joven blend of Clase Azul Plata, Clase Azul Reposado (rested 8 months in American oak), and a measure of Clase Azul Ultra aged 5 years in reclaimed sherry casks. Bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% organic Highland Blue Weber agave mash.

Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico, and finished with platinum, silver, and 24-karat gold detail on the higher-end expressions.

The Clase Azul Dia de los Muertos series is the brand's annual hand-painted ceramic tribute to the Mexican Day of the Dead - Mexico's most iconic celebration of life, memory, and the cycle that connects the living and the departed. Each annual release carries a distinct decanter design, a specific tequila profile, and a small production run aimed squarely at collectors of Clase Azul limited editions.

The 2020 ceramic decanter is hand-painted with a striking skull motif framed by cempasuchil (Mexican marigold) blossoms - the orange-yellow flowers that traditionally guide spirits back to the world of the living during Dia de Muertos. The Ultra component - aged 5 years in sherry-soaked oak - is what shifts this release from the bright Joven profile of the 2019 into deeper, drier territory with more pronounced oak structure.

On the nose, it shows golden cooked agave layered with vanilla, oak, nutty toffee, and white pepper. The palate brings smooth agave, caramel, dried fig from the Ultra sherry-cask component, and gentle savory spice, and the finish carries a long, balanced close.
