Clase Azul 20th Anniversary is the brand's milestone Reposado release marking the first 20 years of Clase Azul Tequila (1997-2017). The 20th Anniversary Limited Edition is housed in a hand-painted Clase Azul decanter rendered in the brand's traditional cobalt blue ceramic and finished with 24-karat gold detail - one of the most ornate decanters the brand had produced as of its 2017 release. Production is capped at 7,300 hand-numbered bottles worldwide - one bottle for each day of the brand's first 20 years.
Clase Azul Tequila is produced at Productos Finos de Agave (NOM 1416) in Jesus Maria, Los Altos de Jalisco - the Highland tequila region. Founded by Arturo Lomeli in 1997, Clase Azul is one of the most recognizable artisan tequila brands in the world, known as much for what's inside the bottle as for the bottle itself: each iconic hand-painted ceramic Clase Azul decanter is shaped, fired, and painted by hand by more than 100 artisans in the village of Santa Maria Canchesda, Mexico.
Inside is an exceptional Reposado built around an extra maturation step in sherry casks from southern Spain: one-third Amontillado, one-third Oloroso, and one-third Pedro Ximenez. Bottled at 80 proof / 40% ABV with a 100% Highland Blue Weber agave mash. The sherry-cask approach foreshadowed the maturation playbook that would later define the Master Artisans Extra Anejo trio - making the 20th Anniversary release a pivotal moment in Clase Azul's aging program.
On the nose, it shows prominent cooked agave layered with caramel, dried fig, and warm baking spice. The palate brings rich agave, soft caramel, dark chocolate, and sherry-cask sweetness, and the finish carries a long, luxurious close.
